One Fifth of British Women Sexually Abused as Kids

That’s the headline on this story from the Independent:

More than one-fifth of women in Britain have been the victim of sexual abuse as children, according to new figures.

This week, ministers will unveil a special action plan aimed at increasing the conviction rate against violent sex offenders, including rapists and paedophiles.

[snip]

Official figures show that 21 per cent of women and 11 per cent of men have been abused by paedophiles.

That seems amazingly high. The article doesn’t specify where the numbers come from and no other press outlet seems to have the story yet. I’ll update if details become available.
