Sanctions Work Like Crazy! Nork Genie Back in Bottle!

In a case of embarrassingly bad timing, the EU yesterday finally voted to approve the sanctions on North Korea which were authorized by the UN months ago:

The European Union has adopted sanctions against North Korea putting it in line with a UN Security Council resolution passed after the Stalinist state announced a nuclear test.

The sanctions include a ban on the sale or export of all materials that could be used in North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, or in the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction.

The EU also froze the assets abroad of some North Korean officials and banned exports to the country of luxury goods like caviar, truffles, high-quality wines and perfumes, and pure bred horses.

The bloc backed, in November, UN resolution 1718 but the application of sanctions required a formal EU decision, which was held up by a row between Britain and Spain over how Gibraltar would implement the measures.

The resolution was passed after Pyongyang announced on October 9 that it had carried out its first nuclear weapons test, triggering world-wide outrage.

On the same day, US CIA Director Michael Hayden let drop his own bomb:

North Korea’s nuclear test last October was a failure and gives no credence to Pyongyang’s claim to being a nuclear weapons state, U.S. CIA Director Michael Hayden was quoted as saying by a South Korean newspaper on Wednesday.”

So Europe is finally ready to punish North Korea for that atomic test that failed atomic test. No longer will the world be bullied by a dangerous rogue regime silly bunch of ham-fisted numb-nuts wielding a burgeoning nuclear aresenal mildly-radioactive BB gun. The day may come when the courage of men fails…but it is not this day! This day we fight blush.

I’m still a bit confused. But, hey, so is this guy…
