I admit it. I’ve been jealous of the Powerline crew before. Why not…? They’re smart, great writers and they get traffic like nobody’s business. As far as blogging goes, that’s the trifecta. Plus, in the very limited interaction I’ve had with them, they’re genuinely nice guys.
But I have never had so much blog-envy as I do today upon learning that Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, guitarist for one of my favorite bands of all time — Blue Oyster Cult, is a regular Power Line reader. This is about as cool as it gets in my book, possibly even cooler than learning that John Derbyshire played a thug in a Bruce Lee movie.
In grade school, when I started enjoying music my dad told me a great story of meeting the guys from BÖC and being invited backstage to a show. It’s been so long, I can’t recall all the details but I think their tourbus had broken down and he offered them a ride to the venue where they were playing that night. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed BÖC ever since. In fact, Fire of Unknown Origin remains one of my favorite albums of all time.
Just so you know I’m serious, four years ago I took my wife to see BÖC on Valentine’s Day. And yes, she thought that was a pretty cool date. The 2 hour drive each way was harsh, but the show itself was terriffic. The guys still sound as good as the records they were making two decades ago.
Congrats, Power Line guys. You’ve hit a new plateau of cool. Of course there is a downside to all this. Unless The Edge drops by and compliments the site, you’ve got nowhere left to go.
