Everyone’s heard of The Anarchist’s Cookbook, right? It’s a book which full of “usefull” information like how to make bombs out of ordinary household chemicals, etc. The book has been around since the 60′s and is a perennial favorite with college students who want to flirt with radicalism. I’m sure there will be many copies floating around at the upcoming protest of the G8 summit.
Today I found .this interesting story. The original author of the Cookbook got married, had kids and became a professing Anglican. He has since attempted to have the book taken out of print to no avail. Very interesting what faith and a family does to one’s perspective on things like the desirability of anarchy.
As much as I’d like to see this book go away, something tells me that if it were to go out of print it would only become more desirable. Copies would still appear on ebay and elsewhere. One thing I’m sure of: The frisson of radicalism never goes out of style. That’s what this book is really about.
