In an odd case that resembles a loudmouth bar patron shooting off his mouth and then trying to act like he didn’t say anything rude or insulting to anyone, Iran is trying to make nice while also trying to play the role of the wounded/offended party.
As reported by the International Herald Tribune,
Iran on Thursday criticized as disrespectful U.S. President George W. Bush’s warning that a nuclear-armed Iran would represent a mortal threat to the American people. “We are against threats, invasion and violation of rights of other nations and countries,” government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency. Elham said all nations, including the United States, were respected by Iran.
Riiiiiight…”against threats, invasion, and violation of rights of other nations and countries?” My question to President Ahmadinejad would be, “Is that before or after you try to nuke Israel into oblivion?”
Perhaps the Iranian Prez has forgotten that last year he said the only true solution to the Middle East crisis is to destroy Israel. His statements included the following:
“Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented.”
Funny, but that doesn’t sound like he is against threats, invasion and violation of rights of other nations and countries, and it certainly doesn’t sound like anything close to “respect for other nations.”
At the same time that he was calling for an end to Israel, he also said,
“And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism.”
Golly, I don’t know about you, but it certainly SOUNDS like he is wishing violence TO and an end OF the United. States.
But maybe that’s just me!
