Glenn Greenwald: Blog About This

John on July 25, 2006 at 11:27 am

A blogger named Seixon has a must read piece up about Jason Leopold, “journalist” for TruthOut. He pretty convincingly proves that Leopold uses sock-puppets and outright lies to intimidate and slander his critics.

What in the world is going on with the progressive blogosphere? And more importantly will Glenn Greenwald make note of the Jason Leopold’s threats and attempts at intimidation (these bother him when they’re made against the MSM by conservative bloggers), publication of personal information (he’s outraged when Michelle Malkin does it) and outright lying (which presumably bothers him on general principles). With this latest case, are we still in the realm of “a few bad words” or is this bordering on criminal behavior? I’m just asking.

For the record, when we I last wrote about Glenn Greenwald, I said I was willing to take him at his word, i.e. that he had not been the one leaving comments under aliases at various conservative sites. Well, that was before I read this piece by Ace at Ace of Spades HQ. It appears one of these aliases posted information that then appeared on Greenwald’s own site several hours later… That’s pretty hard to explain away as the action of a 3rd party. Not impossible, but pretty hard. Ace has also noted the stylistic similarities in the various posts.

As a result of all this, my conviction about Greenwald’s character have been somewhat shaken, especially since if he did do this that means he also lied about it. In any case, I think the balance of probability has shifted with this new information.

Still, there’s a world of difference between what Glenn may have done — which is ultimately more embarrasing that anything else — and what Leopold almost certianly has done, which as I said borders on criminal.
