Independence Day

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

This independence day I’ll be participating in the Huntington Beach parade down one of America’s many small town “Main Streets.” Of course my town is actually the 11th largest city in California, but it feels like a small town when everyone gathers on the 4th. The parade, which is 102 years old this year, will have over 400 entrants, including floats, bands, etc. My church has a musical float on which I’ll be playing guitar.

Personally, I’m very grateful that I live here. Thanks to the people who drafted and fought for those words quoted above, we have an abundance of things to be thankful for. I know this is a day to celebrate, but speaking for myself it’s hard not to think about the millions of people who don’t enjoy the liberties we do. May God bring freedom to a few of these places as well:
