A group called Carlos Labs wanted to demonstrate the capabilities of Google Earth, so they came up with a unique little applet. Their script allows you to search any city, then choose a nuclear weapon with which to bomb it. An overlay then appears showing the extent of the devastation, ranging from “conflagration” at the center to “1st degree burns” at the edges.
Morbid? Yes. But surprisingly interesting.
I’m relieved to learn that only an extremely large bomb aimed at Los Angeles would directly impact my home city of Huntington Beach. Of course the lingering fallout might be another matter.
