Police Investigating Sexual Assault at Occupy DC (Update: No Charges)

John on November 22, 2011 at 8:42 am

There’s not much information yet, just that it happened in McPherson Square where Occupy DC is camped:

Officials tell News4 the assault happened just after 7 p.m. Monday at McPherson Square, where demonstrators have been encamped for over two months.

It is still unclear whether any of the demonstrators were involved in the incident. Law enforcement has only said the suspect in custody is a man.

We should know more by the end of the day. I’ll post updates here.

Update: The post adds this:

Occupy DC members say the accuser was living in McPherson Square.

So he was apparently part of the group in the sense that he was staying in or near the camp. If the members of Occupy DC are claiming he was a transient/homeless person, the Post hasn’t seen fit to publish those claims yet. We’ll see what develops.

Update 1PM: Occupy DC confirms he was a member of their group:

A man living with us in McPherson Sq has been removed, taken into Park Police custody following accusation of sexual assault and theft.

Update 3PM: Local NBC station says one man groped another during an argument but no charges have been filed.
