A judge in England lets a woman who beat her infant for weeks go free because of extenuating circumstances. What circumstances justify child abuse? Being a Muslim woman and a recent immigrant, apparently.
The child suffered brain damage. Apparently the judge has also.

April 23, 2006 @ 10:21 amI was surprised to read that the child involved was a boy and not a girl. In the Muslim community the young male’s negative actions often go unchecked by the female guardian (tantrums, rants, hitting, kicking, and the like – even those directed at the guardian – are tolerated or ignored). I’ve often been told, when there was a discipline issue at school, that only the father (or other male relative) is allowed to punish the male child.
Not that it matters, but could the judge truly be that naive of the cultural norms on which he based his ruling?
