OWS Sexual Assault Victim: “We don’t tell anyone”

John on October 30, 2011 at 9:52 am

Hat tip to JWF for this story from the New York Post:

A sex fiend barged into a woman’s tent and sexually assaulted her at around 6 a.m., said protesters, who chased him from the park.

“Pervert! Pervert! Get the f–k out!” said vigilante Occupiers, who never bothered to call the cops.

“They were shining flashlights in his face and yelling at him to leave,” said a woman who called herself Leslie, but refused to give her real name.

That’s actually not the real scandal here. The real scandal is what comes next:

She said that weeks earlier another woman was raped.

“We don’t tell anyone,” she said. “We handle it internally. I said too much already.”

This issue hit the forefront of Occupy Wall Street coverage a couple weeks ago when Big Government reported that Occupy Baltimore had put out a pamphlet discouraging sexual assault victims from contacting police. A couple days later I did an exclusive report noting the culture of silence at Occupy Baltimore. The pamphlet in question became such a big story that OB eventually put out a new, improved version.

Now we learn from one of the victim herself that this same no snitching ethic toward assault exists at the flagship Occupy site in New York. I’ve said this several times but let me repeat: Occupy campsites are not safe places for women.
