Olbermann Demands Resignation of Mayor Quan, Botches Facts Badly

…if they are attacked with tear gas and rubber bullets and the Mayor’s only comments are to commend the police chief for a quote generally peaceful resolution to a situation and after that claim democracy is messy after the unprovoked acts of those police horrify a nation she is endorsing and assuming for herself whatever havoc the out of control police officers have wrought.

Actually, Quan’s quote “democracy is messy” came several days before the police rousted the protesters:

Oakland officials had said the city was committed to allowing free speech and let protesters camp on the City Hall plaza as Mayor Jean Quan proclaimed on Wednesday that sometimes “democracy is messy.

That’s Wednesday of last week. It was said in defense of the mess at the Occupy Oakland camp, not in defense of the police. Here’s Quan’s statement after the raid. No mention of messy democracy.

Mayor Quan issued a second statement last night which was seen as more “contrite.” This one also didn’t mention democracy.

Is Olbermann just a dunce or was this shift intentional? Your guess is as good as mine.
