You’ve all heard that Muammar Gaddafi was captured and killed by Libyan rebels today. The President gave a brief speech on the White House lawn marking the occasion. Immediately after he concluded an unidentified member of the press shouted a question:
Mr. President does this vindicate the doctrine of leading from behind?
The phrase comes from an April 2011 article in the New Yorker and was put forward by an unnamed White House adviser. I’m sure the White House is happy for the win, but I doubt they want it framed in these terms.
