Return of the “Intercontinental” Railroad Gaffe (Update)

John on September 23, 2011 at 1:12 am

I was going to title this post Revenge of the Railroad Gaffe, but then I decided that conservative bloggers are above revenge.

You remember this gaffe right? Obama’s done this a bunch of times. He got it right in the address to the joint session of Congress a couple weeks ago, but it looks like he’s slipping into old habits again. From his appearance in Cincinnati yesterday:

He starts, stops, and still bumbles it. You can tell he knows he’s supposed to be careful to get this right. He’s probably even had a conversation about this with someone, but it didn’t quiiiite stick. Now there’s a lacuna of uncertainty in his inter-hemispheric train of thought.

Fortunately, the media has decided that this historical gaffe isn’t funny, or telling, or representative of the President’s intelligence, or part of any broader narrative. It’s not worth mentioning at all in fact. And, in truth, it probably isn’t.

Of course, that’s not what they say when Michelle Bachmann or Sarah Palin say something like this. Then it’s an international story and a laugh riot! But hey, whoever said life or the media was fair?

Note: Switched out the video for the sharper, official White House version.

Update: Hey! My baby made it to the LA Times. Also, for those keeping score at home, this is at least the 5th time Obama has made this gaffe:

  1. #1 is here.
  2. #2 and 3 are here.
  3. #4 is here.
  4. #5 was yesterday.
