Paramount is preparing a film on the Dover Intelligent Design trial. According the the story, the writer is looking to make another Inherit the Wind, the movie based on the play based on the Scopes Trial.
For those who haven’t looked at the record, Inherit the Wind takes artistic liscence to a new level. Instead of portraying the trial as it was, i.e as a publicity stunt cooked up by the locals in response to a plea from the fledgling ACLU, the movie turns it into a case of science vs. the stupid and the scary, full of angry mobs right out of central casting.
Welcome to the alternate Hollywood universe where the character who had spent much of his public life campaigning for the poor is of course, the villain, while the arrogant, atheist attorney who had only recently defended two boys in an open and shut case of cold blooded murder on the grounds that no one is ultimately responsible for their actions is, of course, the hero.
Gee, I can’t wait for this lovely bit of agitprop.
