Today, Stanley Kurtz has a piece at NRO about the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and its funding of racial identity groups like the Coalition for Improved Education in South Shore, which used Annenberg money to fund the South Shore African Village Collaborative. Read Kurtz’ piece for details.
I can add a bit to this. In looking through the records of the Joyce Foundation, which Barack Obama also sat on at the same time, it’s clear that CIESS received a lot more than the $200K it got from the CAC:
- $150K for CIESS (for 2 years)
- Another $125K “for general operating expenses”
- $70K “To work with the South Shore Education Task Force in developing a community-wide education plan for eleven area public schools”
- 250K over 2 years “To work with the South Shore Education Task Force in implementing a community-wide reading and math literacy program, and to continue work on the restructuring of South Shore High School.”
That’s a total of $595K from the Joyce Foundation while Obama sat on the board.
What’s the point of all this? Obama is not a moderate by any stretch of the imagination. He used his time in the late nineties funding groups like the South Shore African Village Collaborative, ACORN and of course Bill Ayers. This is only 10 years ago. If he’s had a change of heart since then, it isn’t on record.
