Listen to just about any portion of this WH presser today and you’ll hear reporters asking one overriding question: Isn’t this deal a loser for the President and Democrats?
I think this should reinforce that the House GOP did pretty well against overwhelming odds here. It may not be the win on entitlements we were hoping for, but the President’s bluff was called. And we will get some movement on debt (albeit not much).
Also as part of this presser a mini scandal erupted with some claiming that Norah O’Donnell asked why “we” (meaning herself and the Dems) didn’t get any tax hikes. If you listen to the audio carefully O’Donnell actually says “Democrats are saying you gave them everything they wanted and we got nothing.” In other words, that’s not her perspective, she’s relaying the perspective that’s out there (and it is).
I’ve made mistakes on these sorts of stories before. Everyone gets one wrong now and again. It’s not the end of the world, though it can feel that way for a few moments. It’s important to be fair and correct the record when the facts don’t go your way. We’ve had two bogus media bias stories in two days. Come on, people, we’re better than this.
