Yesterday, Bill O’Reilly aired part two of his interview with Obama. The topic was finances. O’Reilly argued that raising taxes would lower receipts to the treasury. Obama dodged that one. Here’s the full exchange if you want to watch it. Otherwise, just watch from 6:00 on.
At one point in the discussion (about 6:15 into the video), O’Reilly argues that what Obama wants to do is “income redistribution” and makes the statement that this is essentially a socialist program . Obama responds by saying “Teddy Roosevelt supported progressive income taxes.” O’Reilly calls him on this too and finally Obama retreats to “You think I like paying taxes?”
Here’s where it gets really amusing (at least to me). Obama gets serious and offers this:
What I believe is there’s certain things we’ve got to do. And we’ve got to help people who are having a tough time affording college so they can benefit, like we benefited, from this great country. People who are having a tough time they don’t have health care. People who are trying to figure out how they are going to pay the bills.
And there’s certain things we’ve got to do…our infrastructure! Look at what happened in Bejing. You go to the Olympics and these folks are building and we’ve got sewer lines that are crumbling.
So just to bullet point Obama’s plan:
- Things “we” i.e. the government needs to do:
- Help people pay for higher education
- Help people pay for health care
- Help people pay their bills
- Build an infrastructure more like China
Sure he wants to federalize education, health care and bill paying and idolizes the infrastructure in Communist China…but, hey, don’t call him a socialist. That’s nuts.
You really couldn’t make this stuff up.
