In this clip Christie notes that he used the phrase “big things” in his State of the State address nearly two weeks before Obama made it the theme of his State of the Union (see Christie’s say it here). He goes on to say that despite embracing the phrase, he was disappointed by Obama’s failure to talk about the real “big things” that government should be focused on right now, i.e. fiscal discipline, entitlement reform and education reform:
This really does help clarify what was wrong with Obama’s SOTU. Sure it contained soaring rhetoric about what America can do for itself. Hope is always what Obama wants to sell us. But when it came to what Obama himself could do to help America succeed, the answer was always more spending. He either doesn’t grasp or isn’t willing to accept that the things we desperately need now are the three that Christie identified: fiscal discipline, entitlement reform and education reform. If we fail to get serious on those, the rest is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
And on that happy note, Chris Christie Sunday comes to an end.
