People in Tunisia are demanding the resignation of Ben Ali who has been leader of the country since 1987:
In the past month, at least 23 people have been killed in riots. Some estimates are as high as 66 deaths. Ben Ali seems to be getting the message:
‘There will be from now on a total freedom of the press and a removal of Internet restrictions,’ he said, adding that ‘many things have not worked as I wanted them to’ in terms of democracy and freedoms.
Yeah, turns out dictatorship isn’t all that popular with people. Ben Ali has now disbanded his government and announced that elections will be held.
I hope China is watching.
