Since When Does “Anonymous” = Credible?

The watchblog CRN has been having a go at Todd Bentley as of late, and for good reason. Todd Bentley is at the captain’s wheel of what is being called the Lakeland Revival. This guy is either a total nut job, or a total conman/charlatan, or both. Watch one of the videos on YouTube. It is appalling that ANYONE would fall for ANYTHING that this guy says. Put him up there with Benny Hinn and the gang!

So for once in a great while, I am in agreement with CRN.

And yet…

CRN put up a post yesterday titled: ASSEMBLIES OF GOD: Dr. George Wood rebukes Todd Bentley? Notice the question mark at the end of the title. There is a reason for it. The reason is that CRN doesn’t KNOW if the head of the Assemblies of God has indeed rebuked Todd Bentley. It’s just a bit of gossip that was left by an anonymous commenter at another ODM site. And CRN doesn’t try to hide the gossip-factor:

An anonymous commenter at “Living in The Way” has claimed that Assemblies of God General Superintendent, Dr. George O. Wood has sent a letter of rebuke to “Florida Outpouring” leader Todd Bentley.

No details were given and “Living in The Way” has researched the claim finding no verifying evidence that the claim is true.

OK, so an anonymous person left a comment making a claim without any support for their claim. The ODMs researched the claim and found “no verifying evidence that the claim is true,” BUT the “Christian Research Network” decided to report on it anyway?!?!

I don’t understand why these guys don’t get it. How is it that they claim to be the remnant, the only ones upholding God’s truth, and yet they gossip about someone (who may or may not be Christian, which doesn’t really matter either way) and report on it and give it a semblance of credibility.

Once again, they succeed in giving the Faith a black eye.

Way to go, guys! Nicely done.

I’m just curious. If I went to an ODM site and left an anonymous message saying that Rob Bell eats babies, would they report on that as well? How about if I left an anonymous message claiming that Ken Silva is a closet polygamist? Would THAT get reported on?

Just curious…
