Taking a Look at Oprah and the Roots of Her Spiritual Crusade

Scott on April 21, 2008 at 11:00 am

I’ve been making notes for awhile about Oprah and her rising influence in popular culture and in the Christian church. I plan on doing a post, but have been taking my time so as not to try and cover ground that is being covered already by other blogs and commentors around the blogosphere.

Phil over at CRN.Info has linked to a great review of Eckhart Tolle’s book A New Earth which is being heavily promoted by Oprah on her television show, on her radio broadcasts, and on her website. I would highly recommend this review as a great place to start for anyone who wants to know and understand more about what Oprah is pushing.

I believe that Oprah is greatly influential and while I believe she is a force for positive change in society in relation to a great many areas such as health concerns, child safety issues, etc, I also think she is EXTREMELY dangerous on a spiritual level. Her current promotion of both Tolle’s book and A Course in Miracles by Helen Schucman and William Thetford should be of great concern to anyone and especially to Christians who are also fans of Oprah (and her show and her magazine and her website and her radio broadcasts and her cookbook and her toasters).
