Recently a British schoolteacher named Katharine Birbalsingh spoke at a Tory conference about her experience as a teacher. As you’ll hear, she has come a long way to her current views:
But apparently you can’t say these things in Britain and keep your job. Ms. Birbalsingh was promptly suspended. After some parents rallied to her support she was supposed to return to the classroom, but as of today it has been announced that she has resigned. It also happens that her (now former) headmistress is an outspoken Labor supporter so many suspect politics played a role here.
As with my previous post about immigration in Germany, we have a situation where those who speak uncomfortable truths open themselves to punishment or broad accusations of racism from the left. I don’t think those accusations can possible stick in this case, but the fact remains that the left employs the threat to silence its opponents rather than argue the merits. There is nothing admirable about this despicable tactic.
