Last Summer we were asked to contribute a chapter to a creative new book project called Voices of the Virtual World. It’s an anthology by 40 authors around the theme of the church and technology. We ended up contributing two chapters. One by Scott and me and one by Scott solo. It was a fun project, especially doing the audio. There’s something really nice about hearing one of your essays read aloud.
Well today I’m finally allowed to talk about something I’ve known for at least a month. Voices of the Virtual World has won an award from the Society for New Communications Research. There are all sorts of groups out there giving awards, some of them on a pay basis. This isn’t one of those. SNCR is a 501 (c)(3) based in Palo Alto, CA. It’s a think tank for futurists that also seeks to recognize creative uses of new technology.
Admittedly, the award goes to John LaGrou whose creative idea for the book we merely jumped onboard with midstream. AND…the fact remains that we’re outclassed and outgunned by most (if not all) of the authors in the book. Still, it’s exciting to see something we’ve been part of recognized in this way. SNCR sent along a little web badge which I’m putting up right under the book itself.
And, dare I say it…Yes, I dare. It would make a great Christmas gift for the thoughtful, forward looking Christian in your life.
