Naomi Wolf and Jesus

John on January 23, 2006 at 10:35 pm

Is it just me or does it seem as if there’s a pattern here? First it was Jane Fonda, then Anne Rice, now feminist author Naomi Wolf is talking about her experience of Jesus.

Reading the article, it’s clear that this is a very unique Damascus road type experience. I doubt Wolf could pass a theology exam at this point, nor does she sound the least bit interested in taking one. She also seems very wary of becoming a celebrity Christian of some kind. Honestly, that’s a relief. I’d be worried if she did care about those things at this point. What matters is that she’s now saying things like this:

I absolutely believe in divine providence now, absolutely believe God totally cares about every single one of us intimately.

Like Fonda and Rice before her, this is not something that will likely go over well with her core audience. Therefore, one truly has to admire the courage it must take to talk like this, especially in Wolf’s feminist circles. Anyone who even suggested that these three women would be talking about Jesus in 2006 would have been laughed at a decade ago. But God is living and active and that does make a difference.

God bless her. I wish her well.
