Shock Troops Collapses! (Updated)

Update 2: Go to Michelle’s for all the latest including TNR Editor Franklin Foer’s weasly response to the publication of the documents.

Update: Drudge has pulled the story off its front page. Unfortunately I never got to read the pdf docs, just the summary. Did TNR threaten to sue? But according to HotAir (same link as below) TNR doesn’t dispute the accuracy of the docs.

Meanwhile, Ace of Spades has 10 questions for the TNR editors. Since they clearly are reading the blogs at this point (Ace in particular), there’s no doubt they’ll see the questions. Will they bother to answer any of them?

Yeah, right.

[End update]

Just saw this over at HotAir. They got it off Drudge:

The documents appear to expose that once the veracity of Beauchamp’s diaries were called into question, and an Army investigation ensued, THE NEW REPUBLIC has failed to publicly account for publishing slanderous falsehoods about the U.S. military in a time of war.

TNR is going down.

Addendum: As I suspected and said in the comments at HotAir, Bob Owens of Confederate Yankee probably did have something to do with this. Here’s what Bob says:

Allah, I can’t prove it, but I think Drudge may have them because someone in the Army decided to leak the results of a FOIA request I had sent in. I’d asked for these docs specifically, and I was actually expecting them back this week or next.

I’m somewhat irritated someone leaked this to Drudge when I did the legwork (and I had been assured I was the only person to even ask for these by the Army as late as last week), but I guess what matters is that the truth came out.

Frankly, I’d be pretty irritated if I lost a scoop this big to Drudge (like he needs more traffic), but Bob has a great attitude.

Can’t wait to hear TNR’s response…
