Osama Bin Laden (D-Daily Kos)

John on January 19, 2006 at 11:13 am

Osama is back on Al Jazeera. This time he’s talking directly to the American people:

It was not my intention to talk to you about this, because those wars are definitely going our way…But what triggered my desire to talk to you is the continuous deliberate misinformation given by your President Bush, when it comes to polls made in your home country which reveal that the majority of your people are willing to withdraw US forces from Iraq.

He continues:

We know that the majority of your people want this war to end and opinion polls show the Americans don’t want to fight the Muslims on Muslim land, nor do they want Muslims to fight them on their (US) land…But Bush does not want this and claims that it’s better to fight his enemies on their land rather than on American land…Bush tried to ignore the polls that demanded that he end the war in Iraq.We are getting increasingly stronger while your situation is getting from bad to worse.

You get the gist: Bush is a liar and war profiteer (read Halliburton!). The cost is too great. You’re not going to win. Most Americans regret going to war. The media is lying to you. It all has a familar ring, doesn’t it? Sounds a lot like the steady drone of negativity coming from Democratic insider Markos Moulitsas. Check here, here and here for more.

And don’t forget Daily Kos poster boy John Murtha:

The public turned against this war before I said it…The public is emotionally tied into finding a solution to this thing, and that’s what I hope this administration is going to find out.

And AP reporter Ron Fournier, who wrote in Jan.:

A majority of Americans say the conflict is not worth the cost in lives and money, polls show, though they seem willing to give the president time to stabilize Iraq.

In December, Fournier added:

The happy talk didn’t ring true to many Americans, who watched in horror as the U.S. death toll climbed above 2,000…

Also sounds quite a bit like International Humanist and Ethical Union President Roy Brown who wrote:

Few Americans seem aware that the war in Iraq has been lost. The grand idea, to install democracy by force as an example to the rest of the Middle East, has ended with an Iraq that is physically devastated…But this is not what Americans are being told by their government and its co-conspirators, the symbiotic conservative media.

I think it’s time to revive the term “useful idiots.”

Update: Michelle Malkin is on the case as usual.

Update 2: The full text of Bin Laden’s speech is here. I love this bit:

Declaring this defeat is just a matter of time, depending partly on how much the American people know of the size of this tragedy. The sensible people realize that Bush does not have a plan to make his alleged victory in Iraq come true.

Kos says “reality based community”, Bin Laden says “sensible people.” Tomayto, Tomahto — Either way, it’s the same thing.
