Nation’s Highest Ranking Atheist Makes Ass of Himself on House Floor

Rep. Pete Stark has outed himself as an atheist, making him the highest ranking atheist in the US at the moment. Today he let loose such a string of idiocy I’m sure Pat Robertson is thinking “Can’t that guy watch his mouth?”
I tell you between this and James Watson, atheists are having a bad week. Am I enjoying it a wee bit much?
Probably.

Proof that being an atheist is no proof of being smart.
October 18, 2007 @ 2:27 pmI’m an atheist because I think there are no deities.
Gloat all you want, John. I still think your wrong on god, but then it is hard for either of us to prove the point
JP,
I’m sure you’ll have an opportunity to gloat right back within a week. Sadly, there are plenty of big mouth dopes on my side of the spiritual aisle.
Sigh…
And yes, I don’t think God’s existence can be proven only inferred. Since inferences are always under determined, certainty in the scientific sense is not an option. Hence, the need for faith, which coincidentally the Bible is always going on about.
[Hey, now I'm being sarcastic. What's up with me today?!]

I read so damn many rss feeds I refrain from commenting often because I tend to forget I was having a conversation with someone. If I did comment on every blog I read, I’d have to sit here every hour and every day just typing. But I remembered to come back and read this one! (~_^) I’ll continue to ghost in and out from time to time, be sure.
What reminded me to look back finally was this:
The other day, I was listening to Mark Davis(He used to be national but is back to solely local here in DFW) and a criticism he has of Mitt is his blowing off of questions on his Mormonism.
Davis says he is fine but fundies and others may balk.
One day, a caller gave him the standard “Mormons are not Christians” line although what makes them such is a belief Christ came to North America. Davis asked her why she believed that after stating the bit about Jesus touring N.A. She answered with Revelations stating the Bible was not open to abridgment or additions. My first thought on that was “Which of the versions of the Bible did she read that from?” I tend to take Mark’s views on the issue: Does this person’s beliefs cause them to perhaps tend toward doing things I would find totally unacceptable? and for the most part the answer on that is “NO”. Now, as I’ve said, I totally feel there is no God, the same as Stark (raving mad), and will rarely if ever agree with a policy or view he holds. So those who only wish to vote for folks who “Only Believe Everything Exactly As I Do”(Ala those who are claiming to look for a third party if Rudy or Mitt get the nod from the party) will either have to not vote, or find they are getting out voted more and more as they splinter off into as many parties as there are religions.
And don’t worry. I won’t gloat because I may think they prove how stupid Religion is. I gloat because they are just as misguided as Stark(raving lunatic).
