Who Says the U.N. Doesn’t Have a Sense of Humor?!?

Scott on April 29, 2010 at 2:41 pm

The United Nations, the world organization that we are supposed to trust with looking out for the citizens of our big blue marble, has proven that is has a sense of humor.

This week it named IRAN to the Commission on the Status of Women.  The U.N.’s CSW has been charged:

“to evaluate progress, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide.”

And of course, when one thinks of gender equality and the advancement of women, one OBVIOUSLY thinks of Iran!

According to the National Iranian American Council:

The Iranian government by contrast has taken every conceivable step to deter women’s progress and institute a regressive regime against gender equality. In the past year, it has arrested and jailed mothers of peaceful civil rights protesters. It has charged women who were seeking equality in the social sphere – as wives, daughters and mothers – with threatening national security, subjecting many to hours of harrowing interrogation.  Its prison guardshave beaten, tortured, sexually assaulted and raped female and male civil rights protesters.

This is JUST the type of country we need to serve on a U.N. council!

Way to go, United Nations!  I will be looking forward to your upcoming comedy special on HBO!
