I saw this yesterday on Fox. Just watch:
Over at Hot Air Allahpundit thinks the whole scenario is unlikely or rather it’s more likely not to be true. Too close to “death panels.” He also notes this story which, whether true or not, doesn’t have anything to do with the current argument. You can reduce abortion rates through universal coverage and still not pay for abortions with federal funds.
Personally, I believe Stupak. He seems like a straight-shooter and it’s hard to believe he could make up this entire conversation from whole cloth, even naming the person who said this. Generally speaking, lies tend to be a lot simpler and vaguer than this.
Plus it has been fairly obvious all along that the Dems were trying to slip this in unnoticed. They lied about it once before and got caught when Sebelius slipped up on camera. It doesn’t really surprise me that behind closed doors they might admit that this is their intention. And right now, I think they believe they’re going to get away with it without Stupak, so what have they got to lose.
