Ten days ago I offered the GOP some free advice for the summit:
[P]ut up someone who knows the issues and win the debate on the facts. It’s not sexy, but it you undermine some of the ridiculous claims (esp. budgetary claims) about the bill under consideration, the President will have less time to demagogue the issue. It also happens that budget issues are the ones most likely to resonate with tea partiers and the Republican base.
I’m pleased to see that the Republicans did just that, letting Paul Ryan start off with a five minute summary of the budget problems inherent in the bill:
Is it just me or did the President look halfway between really embarrassed and somewhat pissed at being called out on this shambles?
