It officially launched yesterday with the publication of that piece in the NY Times, you know the one that identified a strong undercurrent of extremism. The Times piece does settle one liberal lie once and for all though:
The ebbs and flows of the Tea Party ferment are hardly uniform. It is an amorphous, factionalized uprising with no clear leadership and no centralized structure. Not everyone flocking to the Tea Party movement is worried about dictatorship. Some have a basic aversion to big government, or Mr. Obama, or progressives in general. What’s more, some Tea Party groups are essentially appendages of the local Republican Party.
But most are not. They are frequently led by political neophytes who prize independence
All you heard last summer from Speaker Pelosi on down the line about the Astroturf Extremism â„¢ and the Nazi puppet masters on the right…that was all complete bull crap. Expect a retraction from Think Progress in 3..2..Never.
So they’ve now ditched the Astroturf attack which wasn’t true and (always more important to the left) didn’t work. Instead they’re going to focus on the other tine of the pitchfork, i.e. extremism. Again, read the NY Times piece if you want to hear the clarion call.
This is just the beginning of course. Today, Big Government is reporting that James Carville has been tapped to run the return of the Clinton slime machine which is gearing up for this effort:
Big Government has learned that Clintonistas are plotting a “push/pull” strategy. They plan to identify 7-8 national figures active in the tea party movement and engage in deep opposition research on them. If possible, they will identify one or two they can perhaps ‘turn’, either with money or threats, to create a mole in the movement. The others will be subjected to a full-on smear campaign. (Has MSNBC already been notified?)
The story is a bit thin on details, but I suspect we’ll get more as this unfolds.
Memo to Carville: If your master plan is to fire more flak at Palin you’re going to have to a) take a number and b) prepare to fail like all the rest.
Allah-style-exit-question: How many days until the next explicit comparison of the tea party to Nazis by someone following the NYT/Axelrod’s marching orders?
