Iran Attacks (Again) – Updated

Here we go boys and girls [with a big hat tip to Allah at HotAir]:
Last night an intelligence source told The Sun: “It is an extremely alarming development and raises the stakes considerably. In effect, it means we are in a full on war with Iran — but nobody has officially declared it.[...]
Our Boys picked up the Iranian helicopters on radar crossing into empty desert.
The sightings have been confirmed to The Sun by very senior military sources.
At least two Brit squaddies are thought to have been killed by bombs planted during these incursions into Maysan province — Corporal Ben Leaning, 24, and Trooper Kristen Turton, 27.
A further 44 British deaths have also been linked to the highly advanced bombs, rockets and mortars which originated in Iran.
We are at war with Iran. Why does that sound so familiar? Oh, right, it’s because of that post I wrote on April 24th titled “We Are Already at War with Iran” in which I wrote:
The first step in overcoming a problem is admitting you have one. So let’s just say it. We’re already at war with Iran; we just don’t want to admit it.
So, yes, this is me saying “I told you so.” And, yes, I suppose I’m shamelessly tooting my own horn, but I also have a point to make with all this. If a lowly blogger in California with no military experience knew this was happening, why does the British command in Iraq sound so shocked, shocked! to find that there are Iranians entering Iraq to carry out operations against them? How can anyone look at the published record of Iran’s involvement and not see this coming.
It’s because the real problem isn’t a lack of information. The facts are all there. The problem is that some people in this country and, it appears, most people in Britain have a burning desire to blame Bush, abandon Iraq and ignore Iranian provocation, including direct involvement in hundreds of soldier’s deaths and threats to nuke Israel. So let’s say it again, together this time, and let it really sink in:
We are already at war with Iran.
The head-in-sand approach is something we can ill afford right now. It’s just going to get a lot of good people killed.
Update: Confederate Yankee is pouring cold water on the Sun report I reference above. I think he’s smart to be skeptical given that this is The Sun and not the Times of London or The Guardian. However, in this case, I’m going with it until there’s proof otherwise. It just fits the Iranian pattern of increasing belligerence too well.
He also received a rather cryptic note from Michael Yon, who was on the scene of one of the attacks mentioned in the article. Michael’s comment “48 IEDs, 46 were EFPs.”
Regular readers know that EFP components are being supplied by Iran and that we recently tracked a convoy of such components from Iran into Iraq. As I said in the comments over at Yankee’s site, I think Yon is letting us know that, yeah, the Iranians did it. But here again, I’ll admit that Yon’s comment is both curt and cryptic enough to be open to more than one interpretation.

The administration knows it all to well, but what do we do? Our forces are stretched way too thin and because of the aimless post Saddam plan our country is against any military action.
Oh, about the Iranian nuclear threat to Israel, well, one of these days we will wake up to a news conference from Jerusalem explaining why they had to take out the Iranian nuclear threat. Isn’t it great to be in survival mode all the time, it means you always do what is best without asking everyone else if it’s all right.
June 26, 2007 @ 7:01 amI’m not sure what we do. I agree that nationally we’re in no mood to address the problem. The anti-war movement is the thing the Iranians are counting on to let them get away with killing our soldiers and building a nuke beneath our noses.
One thing we can’t do is pretend it isn’t happening. We need to call them out, at least diplomatically, but preferably publicly. I suspect the administration is wary of any formal presentation to the UN for a case against Iran. Too similar to the controversial one made by Colin Powell.
We are hamstrung by past failures, but the fact remains that Iran is a problem that isn’t going away.
June 26, 2007 @ 8:53 amI really do not believe behind the scenes that the US is worried about the nuclear threat. Israel has several plans ready to go. When it happens Israel will let everyone know just as she did in 1981.
One big threat that everyonme has forgotten about is China. Flying beneath the radar one day she will arise and show her true colors. Long range rockets are now formidable not to mention China has millions of expendible citizens.
June 26, 2007 @ 9:24 am[...] Yet another update (also know as update number 3) – Verum Serum talks about the topic [...]
June 26, 2007 @ 3:36 pmYou are correct in believing this report. I have a VERY reliable source in theater who (off the record) confirms this information first hand, and is very concerned. This individual is the last person that would make something like this up, or pass on erroneous information. I hope to have permission to quote him soon. I do not have that permission at this point.
June 26, 2007 @ 5:51 pmI would usually doubt the credibility of The Sun (most of their stories carry the word “Exclusive” in a red star at the top, and most of them are about ‘celebrities’. However, it is the squaddies paper of choice, and they have learnt not to upset their core readership by getting stuff like this wrong.
Couldn’t agree more.
