President Ahmedinejad said this yesterday:
With God’s help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine…By God’s will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future.
He swears Iran has nothing to do with it, but in case there are any obtuse readers here’s a clue: He’s lying. For one thing, Iran is a major funder of Hamas. So the Lebanese and Palestinians he sees bringing an end to Israel are getting money and support from his regime.
It’s an oft-remarked fact that had we listened to Hitler in the 1930s (when his tanks were still armored with cardboard rather than steel) we could have stopped him years before the death camps came online in ’42. We’re making the same mistake again.
As you read this, America is engaged in diplomacy with Iran. I doubt there will be a high profile “peace agreement”, but there will be a de facto peace. Leave Iraq alone and the US will back off. This is all the time Iran needs to finish their bomb. Within a year, maybe 18 months, Iran will have created their first low yield nuke. My bet is that it goes off in downtown Tel Aviv sometime in late 2008 or early 2009. That is unless Al Quaeda persuades them to bring it to New York instead.
It’s not too late to stop this guy, but time is running out. When the bomb goes off the left will blame the right for not doing something. “It happened on Bush’s watch!” will be the rallying cry. Let’s just say for the record now that the left is the reason we’re not going to do anything. We’ve been hamstrung. As in WWII, we await the war that, in truth, has already begun. And after that, if we’re lucky, a Churchill.
