When the Qur’an is on the Other Foot

Let me be honest and say that in a million years, I NEVER thought I would EVER have sympathy for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. And yet here I am, feeling sorry for the poor, wacked-out Islamic nutjob.

Ahmadinejad is under fire this week from the religious leaders of the super-duper, über conservative Shariah branch of Islam for kissing the gloved hand of an elderly woman and hugging her at a ceremony to honor Iran’s teachers.

(For the sake of this post, let’s not think about WHAT is being taught at many of their schools in terms of hatred of the West and Christians and Jews, denigration of women, supremacy of Islam and the creation of the Caliphate through any means necessary including the slaughter of nonbelievers, etc. Instead, let’s just say that the country is doing something nice by wanting to honor those who serve and sacrifice in the name of education.)

According to the scary-conservative Iranian newspaper Hezbollah,

“The Muslim Iranian people have no recollection of such acts contrary to Shariah law during Islamic rule. This type of indecency progressively has grave consequences, like violating religious and sacred values.”

They are right. This type of activity will most certainly lead the country down the slippery slope of gender equality. If men are allowed to interact with women who are not family, next women will begin to view themselves as equal to men and will want to express their opinions and have them given equal weight to men’s, and then women will want higher levels of education and independence from their male relatives. They may even want to begin to make important decisions for themselves. Before you can say, “Battle of Tours,” men and women will be interacting as equals. SHOCKING!

Such a scenario will lead to total chaos, or as Bill Murray would say, “Dogs and cats living together MASS HYSTERIA!!!”

Of course, the Shariah leaders should have seen this coming. It was a bad sign when last year Ahmadinejad suggested that women be allowed to watch soccer matches with men in the national stadium. Scandalous. Utterly scandalous! Can you imagine the cultural fallout if THAT had been allowed. Girls might begin to believe that they should be allowed to play soccer, too. Ridiculous, I know, but there would have been some girls in the stadium who would have been dumb enough to believe it to be possible.

Thankfully, there are signs that this kind of disgusting, indecent, salacious behavior will not be tolerated (praise be to Allah). A couple weeks ago, Iranian police began to arrest women for failing to adhere to the correct/godly/modest dress code that all Islamic women are expected to comply with. Unfortunately, none of those women who have been ticketed or arrested have received the punishment they REALLY deserve, like being beaten severely or having a limb removed. But maybe if we’re lucky, that will come next.

I can only hope that someday I will be blessed by seeing my wife and daughter living under such clear-cut guidance and moral direction. Then they will know how real, honest, godly women should REALLY live.

And as for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, I’m sure he’ll get his rightly deserved punishment. Under Shariah law, he may be stoned or even executed for his disgusting public display of affection. Just to be safe, I hope they punish the old woman whose hand he kissed, too. After all, she probably encouraged the entire indecent incident in the first place, since everyone knows that women are inherently evil and are placed on this earth to entice us toward sin. If she had any decency at all, she should have immediately denounced Ahmadinejad for his repulsive display of dirty sexualty and then begged to be stoned by nearby onlookers in order to prove herself to Allah.

But maybe that’s just me!
