Blog Update – 2M Hits and Counting

John on November 9, 2009 at 1:42 pm

We passed 2 million hits today almost exactly one year after we hit the one million mark. I realize that’s small potatoes by some standards, but we continue to grow every month and the trend is looking good. I also believe we’ve had a vastly disproportionate impact in national debates this year. We put together this page highlighting VS in the Media. Is there any blog twice our size that can claim half as much? I don’t think so.

Credit where it’s due. Morgen has been a great addition to the site and his scoops and videos have had an amazing impact.¬† As a result of all this attention, our traffic has doubled and is in the process of doubling again.

Cindy has also made the move from reader and commenter to blogger. BTW, today is the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Cindy — our resident expert on all things German — wrote a post about it here that is worth your time.

Our twitter feed is still somewhat anemic in comparison with just 400+ followers, but it’s interesting that our followers at this point include the DCCC. We don’t take ads or even have a tip jar, but if you want to make our day just throw us a link or subscribe to our twitter feed. And if you like us, tell your friends.

Finally, we know there are a lot of new lurkers at the site. That’s great. We’d love it if a few of you would get comfortable enough to leave some comments and maybe hang out a little. We’re glad you’re here, but we’d love to hear what you have to say.

We hope to see 3 million hits by next summer and we really hope you’ll be here reading when it happens.

Addendum: Forgot to mention… Wikio now ranks us at #225 among all blogs. For reasons I can’t explain, we’re in the “General” category with everyone from Huff Post to TechCrunch. By my estimate, we’d be #73 in politics. Again, that’s including HuffPost and Hot Air and all the rest. I’ve sent Wikio two e-mails asking them to change our category (I was polite both times). It used to be “other” now it’s just “general.” Does anyone out there know how to get them to change a category?
