This is sort of cool. Producers of Lost are selling off all the props and costumes used in the show. There are literally hundreds of items, up to and including the hatch. [Actually, the hatch is tiny compared to this.] I don’t know what you’d do with “the hatch” but maybe some club owner will buy it and install it on a wall or something. Anyway, there are smaller items [...]

Big Government’s promised video arrives: As I said in a comment about this already, is there any doubt that a white government official making this kind of statement about a black farmer would be out of a job within 24 hours? I don’t think so. On a more speculative note, the race card has been deployed so many times since Obama was elected one has to wonder if some form [...]

I feel like a big part of my childhood just passed away. Peter Fernandez was not only the voice of Speed Racer, but also did voices for Marine Boy, Ultraman and Astroboy. He even worked on Inframan and Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns. Anime News Network has some quotes on his passing. Sci-Fi Japan did an interview with Mr. Fernandez last Janurary where he talks about his work. If you’re a [...]

I’ve been hearing about this all day and it doesn’t disappoint: On the one hand, I think the Panther case clearly got special treatment given that the misconduct is captured on video. On the other hand it’s not hard to imagine this becoming one more exhibit in liberals’ litany of evidence that Republicans are racist. Of course most of the items on that list are bogus, like the yelling of [...]

They had fun with the review of the Camaro SS: I’m with Hammond on this one.

The headline for this puff piece is “MSNBC gets a little less predictable.” You see, liberal flamethrower Larry O’Donnell is going to be different from liberal Maddow and liberal Olbermann. How? Unlike Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, this liberal weighing in on the Obama administration has actually worked in the innards of government…As the BP spill has worsened, both Maddow and Olbermann have grown increasingly critical of President Barack Obama, [...]

I missed this last week. After Tavis Smiley made a fool of himself claiming that Christian terrorists are everywhere, PBS’s ombudman was forced to respond: I thought Smiley went off course here in a way that was guaranteed to be inflammatory. He seemed to be equating the occasionally deranged individual in this country with religiously fanatic suicide bombers and those like Maj. Nidal M. Hasan at Fort Hood in Texas. [...]

From the quivering cowards who censored Mohammed in a bear suit comes a brash new comedy about Jesus: As part of the network’s upfront presentation to advertisers, Comedy Central is set to announce “JC,” a half-hour show about Christ wanting to escape the shadow of his “powerful but apathetic father” and live a regular life in New York City. In the show, God is preoccupied with playing video games while [...]

Still my favorite show on television. The new season (or series for you Brits) is looking promising: The Telegraph gave it high marks. I’m excited to see the weeping angels will be returning, though I don’t think it’s possible for them to get close to Blink, aka the best hour of sci-fi television ever made.

I love HULU. Really love it. It is a fantastic source for diversions both old and new. Right now I am in the middle of a diversion of the old variety, specifically in the form of Starsky and Hutch (the television series from the 70′s, not the travesty of a movie that came out a few years ago). Starsky and Hutch is fun and engaging. It provides characters with layers [...]

She makes a halfway decent stand-up: therightscoop Not hysterical lines they gave her, but the poise is impressive.

I love California. I also hate California: Energy Commissioners say the new TV ban will save Californians one billion dollars a year in electricity costs, but some customers told 17 News they don’t want the government telling them what kind of TV to buy. Martin Garcia will likely buy an energy efficient LCD flat screen TV, but he disagrees with the new state law that forces him to do so. [...]

Ace makes a good point about the deeper hypocrisy of David Letterman: Check out this clip of Letterman with Dr. Phil, in which Letterman will not stop ragging on Sarah Palin (supposedly) for failing to talk to her daughter about birth control. (I say supposedly because Letterman is really just going after Sarah Palin for anything at all, and doesn’t much care if his weapon of choice here is a [...]

John’s capricious rules for this list: As with my beautiful stars of sci-fi list, this list covers fantasy/horror as well. I’m only considering one hour shows. That means no twilight zone, Night Gallery, Tales from the Crypt, etc. No two-parters. Why? Because two-parters aren’t one hour shows. It’s cheating! There has to be a separate list for those. I’m not a fan of Babylon 5 or Firefly (though I liked [...]

The 11th Doctor will be played by young actor Matt Smith. He signed a three year deal with a possible two year extention. I actually like the look. Definitely young to be playing a 900 year old Time Lord, and yet he has that braniac grad student look which suits the role. Still, David Tennant will be missed (not to mention Bille Piper).

From the Telegraph: Patrick McGoohan, who died on January 13 aged 80, starred in two of the most memorable British television series of the 1960s, Danger Man and The Prisoner. If Danger Man was somewhat typical of 1960s espionage drama and derring-do, The Prisoner was a more cerebral affair in which McGoohan played a character known only as Number Six. The series, which was made in Britain and drew on [...]

**NOTE**: John and his family are out of town for a couple weeks. To fill his spot we have spared no expense and brought in a hired gun of the highest caliber, our friend Cindy. Well, OK. Cindy is not costing VS anything so she isn’t a hired gun. And that whole “highest caliber” thing… well, her son and my son are best friends, so I had to put that [...]

I enjoyed 24 while it lasted. I had a feeling it was in trouble last season when Jack Bauer was suddenly “conflicted” over the use of torture. Then I heard the producers had scrapped an entire season concept on the eve of production only to start over with a new concept and push the show’s start date back several months. I knew things were getting really bad when the new [...]

Back in the early 80′s I would occasionally catch an episode of Dr. Who on PBS. The shows were creative but incredibly cheap. Few sets, few actors, and poor special effects — all of which presented a problem for a time-traveling science fiction epic. One can only get so engaged in saving the inhabitants of a Styrofoam planet. At some point recently, I noticed that BBC America was airing hour [...]

This time the fascist creeps stoned a young girl for having sex. Of course, as with previous incidents of rampant Christian fascism, this one is entirely imaginary. This particularly obnoxious liberal fantasy comes via the popular TV show Cold Case: In the September 30 episode of the CBS forensics show, the devoutly religious teens in an abstinence club turn out to be sexually active hypocrites who murder one of their [...]
