Introducing…the Coveted Helen Thomas Award!

John on June 8, 2010

It is with great pride and attendant fanfare that I announce Verum Serum will henceforth be issuing its own prestigious award named after senior White House correspondent and Israel-hating crone Helen Thomas. Each year starting on May 11th, the date of modern Israel’s founding, my co-bloggers and I will nominate those bloggers, journalists, or news organizations who have displayed the most egregious anti-Israel bias over the previous year. We will [...]

Priceless: Let Me Take Those Electrons Off Your Hands, LA

John on May 18, 2010

The LA City Council voted to boycott Arizona over the immigration law. Now Arizona is threatening to return the favor: Dear Mayor Villaraigosa, I was dismayed to learn that the Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott Arizona and Arizona-based companies — a vote you strongly supported — to show opposition to SB 1070 (Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act). You explained your support of the boycott as [...]

Dive into the OCEAN…

Scott on May 10, 2010

For Mother’s Day, the family decided to do a movie and then lunch.  The movie that won the vote was Disney’s OCEANS.  And I just gotta say that it was really, REALLY good…bordering on awesome! If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.   Think PLANET EARTH…but on a ginormous television. I went in with a bit of trepidation, expecting some heavy-handed narration that would go WAY HEAVY on global [...]

When the Left Needs Two Hands to Find Their…

Scott on May 4, 2010

Just a quick rundown of how people on the left took the attempted bombing of Time Square and applied their own unique “perspective” on things… New York’s Mayor Bloomberg: [Katie] Couric interviewed Bloomberg to discuss the possibility that the failed attack might have been a precursor to something bigger and potentially, more deadly. At one point, the veteran anchor asked the Mayor whether or not he thought the suspect was [...]

Who Says the U.N. Doesn’t Have a Sense of Humor?!?

Scott on April 29, 2010

The United Nations, the world organization that we are supposed to trust with looking out for the citizens of our big blue marble, has proven that is has a sense of humor. This week it named IRAN to the Commission on the Status of Women.  The U.N.’s CSW has been charged: “to evaluate progress, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of [...]

Constitution Shmonstitution

Scott on March 17, 2010

As the controversy rages on over the upcoming Health Care vote (or non-vote), I was curious and pulled up the applicable section of the Constitution (Article 1, Section 7): (bold type mine) Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not [...]

Captain Oveur is Over and Out…

Scott on March 15, 2010

Actor Peter Graves has died at the age of 83.  Although for most people my age he was associated with the movies AIRPLANE and AIRPLANE II – THE SEQUEL playing Captain Oveur, I remember him best as Jim Phelps in the television series Mission:  Impossible.  Back when I was little, the characters in Mission:  Impossible were cool beyond cool.  My friends and I spent many hours playing in our neighborhood, [...]

What? Pelosi and Dems KNEW about Massa and Said/Did Nothing? Now THAT is hard to believe…NOT!

Scott on March 11, 2010

According to the Washington Post, Nancy Pelosi’s office knew back in October that Eric Massa was guilty of some rather odd and, quite possibly, inappropriate behaviors.  Barney Frank’s office seemed to know as well: Joe Racalto, Massa’s chief of staff, was uneasy that Massa, 50, was living with several young, unmarried male staffers and using sexually explicit language with them, one source said. But what finally prompted him to call [...]

Village Idiot, Thy Name is Nancy…

Scott on March 10, 2010

This doesn’t really need any set-up or explanation: “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy…” Nancy Peolosi, speaking to the 2010 Legislative Conference for the National Association of Counties And just for kicks, let’s go to the tape:

With Friends Like These Obama Better Watch Out!

Scott on March 9, 2010

Just some choice comments from some of Obama’s biggest fans.  These guys hurt President Obama more than any Republican/conservative could ever hope to… Dan Rather on President Obama as a leader and as an ineffective president… “He’s a nice person, very articulate…but listen, but he couldn’t sell watermelons if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic.” – Chris Matthews on a speech given by President Obama… [...]

And Now for Something Completely Different…

Scott on March 5, 2010

A friend and frequent commenter here at VS put this up on her Facebook page.  After I stopped laughing I realized it was worth sharing.  And can also just say that I WANT A JOB AT THE ONION?!?! The setup to this Onion News Network piece is that during a health care pitch speech, President Obama had a Milli Vanilli – Ashely Simpson moment: To me the best part is [...]

John on March 4, 2010

Here we go again… Two police officers were injured by a suspect who opened fire outside the Pentagon tonight after the officers asked him for an access pass, police said. “He was pretty calm,” Pentagon Police Chief Richard S. Keevill told reporters of the suspect’s demeanor. “There was no distress. … He reached into his pocket. They assumed he was going to get his [Pentagon access] pass out and he [...]

Bomb Threat at Huntington High (Updated)

John on March 3, 2010

A few photos from yesterday…Thanks, Natalie. UPDATE @ 1:30 pm: Read the comments to see the perspective of several students who were there on campus at the time and who have had contact with the young man in question… Specifically, they say this kid was best known for wearing a trench coat and imitating the Joker from The Dark Knight. Several say he was a fan of Nazism. This definitely [...]

Breaking News: The President Prefers Wings Over Drumsticks

Morgen on March 2, 2010

Slow news day… Not to be hypercritical of a pretty mundane photo-op, but saying “can I be honest with you” twice in a two minute conversation is not generally regarded as a good way to establish your credibility.

Tsunami Watch: Live Web Coverage

Morgen on February 27, 2010

The latest release from the Pacific Tsunami Warning center is forecasting the earliest arrival of the first tsunami wave on the shores of Hawaii at approximately 11:05 a.m. local time (1:05 PST/3:05 EST). I understand a tsunami may even hit the shores of California with the next 15-20 minutes, but this is not expected to be very substantial and may not even be noticeable. I am trying to track down [...]

Texas Plane Crash was Home Grown Terror

John on February 18, 2010

The FBI is already saying that terrorism wasn’t involved. I guess it depends how you define terrorism. This guy clearly wanted to blow something up to send a message and maybe kill people in the process. I’m not sure how that’s any different than Timothy McVeigh except that the body count was far, far less. In fact, last I heard the only fatality was Joe Stack, the pilot. I’ve read [...]

It Really Bothers the Left That Sarah Palin is Beautiful

John on February 16, 2010

Have a look at this page by designer Kellyanne Hanrahan. The Photoshop work is excellent, though there are some obvious mistakes. If you look at them generally, this isn’t Palin deglamourized so much as de-womanized. It’s not just earrings, glasses and lipstick that have been removed, it’s her hair and eyelashes. The hairstyle is masculine in several images and the color is a truly odd shade of purple in a [...]

Apple iPad – The Barack Obama of the Computing World?

Scott on January 28, 2010

What do you get when the rumors and promises and hype of the last year deliver something much less than expected? If you are into politics, you get President Barack Obama as seen at last night’s State of the Union address. If you are into technology, you get the newly unveiled Apple iPad. The website MASHABLE has a nice review of the iPad, detailing why it disappoints.  The gist of [...]

Apple Ushers in Age of Aquarius (Updated)

Scott on January 27, 2010

You may or may not have heard that today, Apple is supposed to be making a big announcement about its much-anticipated tablet.  Over the last couple weeks I’ve been amused as I listened to the breathless discussions speculating as to the look, feel, taste and such of this new and upcoming Apple innovation.  As I was reading a tech blog yesterday and chuckling over one person’s comment that just as [...]
